On October 19 2016 Rafa hosted the formal opening of his Sports Centre and Academy in Manacor. This has put it firmly on the map, both literally and figuratively. I was there with friends but, of course, unable to attend the opening ceremony. We did, however, go back the following day to go inside and see the museum. It's a very impressive site with a very modern feel. I particularly loved the living wall inside the main entrance. To go to the museum you first pass the wonderful hologram of Rafa welcoming you (I want one of these for Christmas if anyone has the budget) and then watch a short film. Of course, the most impressive parts of the museum for a fan are Rafa's trophy cabinets. From junior tournaments... ...through the 250s and 500s... ...the incredible display of 1000s... ...even including the broken ATP Masters shield... ...to his gold medal... ...and his grand slams. We did note that there is plenty of room for more trophies. |
