For the seventh year running Rafa has qualified for the end of year World Tour Finals. This year his group consists of Roger Federer, Mardy Fish and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Rafa's one loss to Mardy Fish was at this year's Masters in Cincinnati (when Rafa was suffering from severely burnt fingers). Since then, Rafa beat him at the Japan Open.

Rafa's one loss to Jo-Wilfried on a hard court was at the Australian Open back in 2008. Commentators will never let us forget this. This year Rafa lost once to him on grass at Queens (when we didn't believe Rafa's heart was entirely in winning) and, most recently, only allowed him 6 games over three sets in the Davis Cup semi final.

Rafa is way ahead in the overall head to head but on hard courts honours are even. Rafa won their first encounter in Miami in 2004 and their most recent, also in Miami earlier this year. Three of Federer's four hard court wins have come at the end of year finals (the Masters Cup in Shanghai and the World Tour Finals in London).
